Jonathan Lee, Clinical Graduate student

I am a Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD Fellow with a special interest in heart failure management. After my medical studies at the University of Bristol, I had the privilege of working in the Sinha Laboratory as an Academic Foundation Trainee where I developed an interest in understanding the role epicardium plays in cardiac regeneration.

The focus of my PhD will be on understanding how hESC-epicardium alters the extracellular matrix when cultured together with hESC-cardiomyocytes. I hypothesise that epicardium-mediated matrisomal changes play key roles in improving hESC-cardiomyocyte survival, maturity and function when transplanted into animal models of myocardial infarction.

Outside the laboratory, I love cooking, playing tennis and badminton, and enjoying jazz music of any kind.
